Too Many Holidays

Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem Shirazi wants his countrymen to get back to work. All of those holidays have to be haram, right?Today’s 4/20, and after Easter on Monday, Earth Day over the weekend and Witch Burning Day the week after, if you are starting to feel like there are too many holidays, don’t worry, you aren’t alone.

Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem Shirazi of the Holy City of Qom is advocating a serious cut back of holidays celebrated by his fellow Iranians.

Calling for a full investigation into the impact of gratuitous days off, Shirazi claims to have the best for his country at heart. “If your life span is 70 years, your useful lifetime should be 20 years. Should you not think about how you have used your lifetime?”

Unlike Shirazi, once President (2005-2013) and now possible candidate again, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, while in power pushed for more holidays and hoped to have Thursday absorbed into the Iranian weekend.King of taking it easy, Ahmadinejad was always a big fan of a good siesta.

While his plan for Thursday didn’t quite takeoff, with another go-around Ahmadinejad might finally get that passed.

Therefore if you are really sick of holidays, you won’t want to give Ahmadinejad your vote.

Most Iranians around take Thursday as a half day.
